Winona Van Norman Crankshaft grinders are the Best Value Among All Crankshaft Grinders

Judged by any standard -- speed, precision or longevity -- the Winona Van Norman CG's delivers better performance than any other crankshaft grinders.

By careful design of this advanced machine, set-up, and operation has been made notably easier in several ways. For example, four indexing locations on the head stock with the optional air operated index pins make it faster to dial in the crankshaft properly.

Also, the easily adjusted outboard counterweights never need to be supplemented by inboard weights. More than convenience, these and other features save valuable time and make it easier for a new operator to learn.

Precision, too, is improved over other machines. The CG's are built very heavy with widely spaced ways to assure positive alignment of the wheelhead to the table. Moreover, the controls are easier to use. In particular, the Precision Incremental In-Feed Lever is much easier to use than a handwheel to achieve the precise desired journal size. One full stroke of this lever moves the wheehead precisely .0004", and it can be used in steps to move the wheelhead .0001", .0002", or .0003". As an illustration of the superior accuracy of these machines, it is possible to double plunge precisely to the same size leaving no lap line.

Beyond greater speed and precision, some other important benefits of the CG's include longer machine life, longer grinding wheel life and greater safety for the operator and machine.

Of these many advantages, no single one is responsible for the superior performance of the CG's. Instead, all of its features together make it capable of faster grinding with greater accuracy and longer useful life.

Compare features. Compare prices. No other crankshaft grinder delivers as much value as the Winona Van Norman CG Series does.

Faster, easier set-up

To achieve a major reduction in set-up time, the CG240 eliminates wasted effort at every step of the process. Some crankgrinders have some of the same features, but no other machine has all of the important advantages of the CG Series.

Time-saving Features:

Dial-O-Matic"! Steady Rest saves journal set-up time

A dial indicator is mounted on the steady rest. After grinding a journal and moving to another one, it's not necessary to waste time removing the steady rest to mount a quick-check indicator. Using the Dial-O-Matic"! steady rest make journal set-up faster and easier.
Strok-Set"! (Standard) Set accurate journal offset in seconds
Exclusive STROK-SET"! gauge has a precision dial indicator that measures the journal offset directly to ± 001". Use it to set the stroke to the factor specs. This is faster and more accurate than any other way of setting the stroke. The STROK-SET"! gauge is so easy and reliable that you can set stroke with complete confidence before putting the crank in the machine. (Gauge includes a checking standard.)

Superior Design:

Four indexing locations eliminate repeated measurements
The CG240 has four indexing locations. When reading the indicator to determine journal offset, the operator knows the crank is turned precisely to the desired position and the indicator is giving an accurate reading. He need not repeat this step to recheck the measurement.

90° & 120° Indexing Ring
An indexing ring has precision integral ratchet stops at 90° and 120° intervals for rapid and accurate indexing when grinding rod journals for high performance and other special applications. This mechanism is installed inside the index ring for protection and long term precision and is easily disengaged for normal grinding applications.

Single gib locks are quick and easy to use
Turning one handle locks the stroke adjustment slide on the headstock and tailstock. This is quick and positive. It eliminates the need to tighten multiple nuts as on other machines yet clamps the slides tightly in the desired position.

Headstock and tailstock turn with little effort
Double tapered roller bearings with Timken thrust bearings are used in the headstock and tailstock. They are long lasting, high-precision bearings and allow the chucks to be turned very easily. More than a convenience for the operator, this features saves time when rotating the crankshaft.

Quill retraction reduces effort when mounting crankshafts
The tailstock quill can retract 1 1/4", making it unnecessary to move the headstock or tailstock when regrinding a production run of similar crankshafts. Simply retracting the quill gives enough room to remove one shaft and insert another.

Airfloat heads move with little effort
If it is necessary to move the headstock or tailstock to mount a crankshaft of a different length, air pressure floats the heads making them very easy to move.

Counterweight design eliminates wasted time
The outboard counterweights adjust quickly with a speed wrench. A pointer and scale in the housing shows when the weights are positioned to match the stroke of the shaft being reground. More importantly, offset is enough to counterbalance the largest shafts the machine can accommodate: it is never necessary to waste time adding supplemental, inboard counterweights.

Trim-A-Just"! allows rapid, fine radial adjustments
Rod journals seldom are indexed precisely to each other. The operator must allow for this when regrinding the crank. With the CGs, single-knob Trim-A-Just"! is standard and allows radial corrections to be made quickly and easily. This saves time and allows for higher precision.

360° Quick Clamps
Set-up change from one crankpin to the next is fast by the use of Quick Clamp chuck rotation locks. These locks are positive, and easy to release allowing the operator to rotate the heaviest crankshafts through a full 360° of index.

Convenient in-feed control gives greater precision
One full stroke of the Precision Incremental In-feed Lever moves the wheelhead in .0004". Partial strokes can be used to move the wheelhead .0001", .0002", .0003". This control is much easier to use than the handwheel for better control of precise desired journal size.
